OGDEN - Ruth Pettigrew Thompson, 83, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend left us on Saturday, December 20, 2008 after a short battle with leukemia.

Ruth was born in Ogden, Utah on July 6, 1925 to Roy S. and Rhea Hodson Pettigrew and grew up in Plain City.

She married James Lyle Thompson on June 20, 1947.

Ruth graduated from Weber High School in 1943. She remained close with many of her high school girl friends in "The Plain City Club" for the past 65 years.

At the age of 17, she started her career with E.R. Dumke, M.D. as a medical assistant. For most of her 45 year career she worked for D.C. Barker, M.D. and finished her career working for Samuel Boor, M.D. She loved her job and the interaction with people. One of her fondest memories was of downtown Ogden and the Eccles Building during the forties and fifties.

In retirement Ruth traveled extensively throughout the country with her girl friends and always looked forward to her next trip. She felt that keeping busy and anticipating events kept her young. Her best kept secret was her true age. She loved parties and amazed her grandchildren with her energy and love of life. She enjoyed attending local theatre productions and concerts. She was also very active in a number of service organizations.

Surviving are her daughters, Lana Peterson, Centennial, CO; Jan Ingram, Ogden, UT; and Toni Gates, Pleasanton, CA; six grandchildren, Rachel Pittinger, Nate Peterson, David Ingram, Michael Ingram, Alex Gates, and Eric Gates; four great-grandchildren, including two special great-granddaughters, Lauren and Abby Pittinger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother Bob, and one son-in-law, Spence Peterson.

The family would like to recognize and thank Ruth''s dear friend, Margene Johnson, for all of her love and support over the past few years. The family would also like to thank the staff of Ogden Regional Medical Center and Pine View Transitional Care Center.

At Ruth''s request, there will be no funeral or graveside service.

Friends may visit with the family at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., on Saturday from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
