Ruth Mary Shelby Wintle

August 3, 1920 ~ August 13, 2015

Ruth Mary Shelby Wintle shared her tender love and numerous talents with her three daughters, three sons and their spouses along with 29 grandchildren and 79 great grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, sisters, brothers and friends for 95 years and ten days, then passed peacefully at a family home on August 13, 2015.

Ruth was born to John Wallace Shelby and Clara Steffen Shelby on August 3, 1920 in Brigham City, Utah.

She married Darol H. Wintle on October 3, 1937, and they were later sealed as a family in the Idaho Falls Temple.

She resided in Pocatello, Idaho and North Ogden most of her married life but more recently has lived with her daughter Lori and her husband for 19 years.

Our beautiful mom was richly talented in many areas. Her oil paintings were appreciated by many friends and family. She served as president of the Western Art Guild. She gave most of her paintings as gifts. She was proficient in culinary arts with her ‘World Famous’ rhubarb pie, gingerbread boy cookies, peanut brittle and fresh home grown raspberry jam. She refinished old wood furniture creating heirlooms for many family members. She produced numerous personal birthday cards with creative original poems and stories. Many of her original quilt patterns were used by Mormon Handicraft for many years. She canned and bottled extensively her entire life. No dinner was complete without her special bread and butter pickles. Her family was the main focus of her entire life. She served and gave her all to that end.

She was active in the LDS church and served in many capacities. She especially loved her time spent in Relief Society service and working in the Ogden temple. Her stake and ward designed parade floats were enjoyed by all.

Mom was preceded in death by our dad, Darol, a grandson Dallas Perry, son in law Reed Barkdull and three of her brothers and sisters. She is survived by; children, Lois Barkdull, Diane (Darwin) Perry, Darol Jr (Phyllis) Wintle, Rodney (Pat) Wintle, Wally (Patty) Wintle, Lori (Curtis) Peterson; brother David Shelby, sisters Helen Hunsaker and Jean Stafflund.

Our thanks to all of those who have assisted in caring for mom, especially Lori and Curtis for having her in their home for all these past years and for Wally and Patty for the final few weeks of assistance.
