Ruth Ann Woods, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 3, 2010.

She was born April 23, 1917, in Echo, Utah, a daughter of William J. and Lottie Stagg Woods. She lived in Utah all her life- - in Echo, Ogden and Layton. For the last 13 years, she shared a home in West Point with her niece and nephew, Karen and Chester Spangler. She was a graduate of North Summit High School, Weber Junior College, and Utah State Agricultural College.

She belonged to the First United Methodist Church of Ogden.

Ruth''s life was defined by her love for her family and her dedication to the teaching profession. She devoted much of her life to providing a home for her mother. She was an integral part of the lives if three generations of nieces and nephews. She began 41 years of teaching in a two room school in Wanship, Utah, where she taught first, second and third grades. She then moved to Ogden, where she taught at Pingree, Madison, and Grand View elementary schools. Everywhere Ruth went, even in the last weeks of her life, she met former students who recalled the good times they had in her classroom.

Ruth''s greatest joy was sharing interests and activities with her family. Vacations, eating out, shopping, model train conventions, art shows, catching tadpoles, equestrian competitions, pretend tea parties, belly dance festivals- -Ruth was up for anything that included the companionship of her loved ones. She enjoyed the many pets that touched her life, whether her own or belonging to others. During her last days, she was especially comforted by her cats, Sushi and Connie, and her Chihuahua, Max. She was talented at needlework, completing many lovely pieces of crewel embroidery. She had a special knack with African Violets, and her home was always brightened by their blooms. She liked to read and listen to music. Ruth took pleasure in all things beautiful.

She is survived by her niece, her nephew, Robert Mikkelsen (Linda), grand nieces and nephew, Rebecca Maryfield (Stephen), Shelby Rickart (Eric), and Robert Spangler (Talene) and great-grand nieces and nephew, Elena and Elizabeth Spangler and Samuel Rickart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and sister.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 11th at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church, 1339 West 400 North, Ogden.
