Ruth Workman

Ruth Ester Workman, 96, passed away peacefully at Manor Care in South Ogden Saturday, October 31, 2015.

She was born January 14, 1919 in Glendale, Arizona, the daughter of Tom Stanley Close and Cora Ethel Watkins.  She had one brother Ralph E. Close (deceased), and one sister Cloe Della Close (deceased).

Ruth married C. Grant Workman on the 25th of April, 1954 in Elko, Nevada and was later sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  They lived in Syracuse for 34 years.  Shortly after Grant’s death, Ruth moved to Layton, where she lived for 23 years.

She worked for Barlow Corporation for 53 years.  She was active in the LDS church.  Ruth enjoyed crocheting, needlework, and loved working in her flower gardens.  She was an avid reader and loved to go shopping.  She supported her husband with his love for horses and attended all the activities associated with them.  Most of all, she enjoyed being with her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Grant, daughter Joanne Barabas, and granddaughter Shavonne Freitas.

Surviving are stepsons Gary (Janet) Workman, Ron (Karen) Hill, both of Fruit Heights, eight grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.

Did I mention she loved to go shopping?

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Rd. where friends may visit family from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.  Interment, Syracuse City Cemetery.

Special thanks for loving care provided by Manor Care in South Ogden, Hearts for Hospice, and Pheasant View Assisted Living in Layton.
