Ruthel Darlene Van Sickle passed away Monday, July 28, 2014, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born November 25, 1926 in Plain City, Utah to Herman Darl Van Sickle, Jr. and Ruthel J. Ross, as the eldest of five children.

Darlene graduated from Weber High School, Weber State College and University of Utah with a teaching degree. She taught first, second, and third grades in Utah, Montana and Washington State.

She was talented musically with a beautiful singing voice and played the violin and piano.

Darlene worked as a professional seamstress, and designed and sewed her own clothes and those of her sister. She did all types of handiwork and always with precision.

When she was younger she traveled extensively. Every Saturday evening she loved to watch the Lawrence Welk show. The family pet Chihuahua, Pahco, could often be seen on her lap, covered with a blanket, with just his eyes and large ears showing.

Surviving is a sister, Aleta (MelVern, deceased) Wood, Sunset; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother H. Don, sisters, Dolores (Bob) Jones, Ruby (Keith) Ward, grandparents, Daniel and Mary H. Ross, Herman Darl, Sr., and Rosabelle S. Van Sickle.

A viewing will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South. A graveside service will follow at 11 a.m. at the Plain City Cemetery, 1975 North 4425 West.
