Sachiko Marryott (nee Murao)

Sachiko Marryott (nee Murao), 83, passed away on October 19, 2016 in Layton, UT, after a brief illness.

Sachiko was born on June 25, 1933, in Iwakuni, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan, the eighth and youngest child of the family.  She witnessed the atomic bombing of Hiroshima when she was in the third grade.  As a young girl, she experienced the destructive forces of war and lost three brothers in different campaigns. After graduating from high school, she worked at several jobs until she met Fredrick E. Marryott, Jr. who was stationed at the United States Marine Corps Base in Japan. They married on December 23, 1963 in Fukuoka, Japan. Shortly thereafter, Fredrick returned to the States, bringing his new bride with him. They started a family, moving and living in numerous cities, embracing the life of Fredrick’s military career. 

She proudly became a naturalized citizen in 1974, and worked various jobs to help support the family. Her last job was cashier at Hill Air Force Base Commissary, a position that allowed her to meet and make many friends, all whom she enjoyed talking with when shopping there after retiring.

Sachiko loved to watch old western movies and television shows where the good guys triumphs over the bad guys. She always enjoyed her day trips to the west desert to the small town of Wendover.  They will dearly miss her patronage.  Sachiko also enjoyed family reunions and visiting with friends and loved ones.

Sachiko is survived by her two sons, Robert of Layton, UT; and Michael of Cary, NC; her daughter-in-law Victoria, her treasured grandson Marston, numerous cousins, close friends, and her beloved dog Jack. She was preceded in death by her husband Fredrick.

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield.  Friends may visit family Friday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
