Sally Sampson

January 28, 1938 — August 5, 2021

Sally Bell Sampson

Sally Bell Sampson, age 83, of Bountiful, Utah passed away peacefully August 5, 2021.  She completed her earthly journey and was welcomed into the Spirit World by her sweetheart James Eliot Sampson.

Sally was born January 28, 1938 in Ogden, Utah.  She spent most of her young life participating in mutual, riding bikes, horses, and showing up the boys at the ball field.  She learned much about the gospel of Christ, caring for family and a home, and serving others while taking care of a wonderful woman with Polio and her family down the street.  She met her sweetheart, Jim, at a young age where it was love at first sight, at least for Jim.  He loved her sense of adventure and that she could keep up with the boys.  Soon they married January 3, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple and began building their life; a life of love, a life of family, a life of friends, a life of adventure, a life of Christ.  Eventually, Jim and Sally made their home in Bountiful, Utah where they raised their children and lived for 52 years.

Sally loved being a wife, mother, and grandmother.  Even though she participated in PTA, bridge club, book club, bowling and golf leagues, playing the piano, and tole painting, she made it a point to always be there for her kids, they never returned to an empty house.  They enjoyed skiing together in the winter and boating together in the summer.  Sally and Jim were a power couple.  They supported each other and worked together to build memories and traditions that lasted a lifetime and beyond.  They established a Christmas Eve tradition that is cherished and has been passed down to the grandkids, crab for Christmas Eve dinner.  They always had a plan and were working hard to achieve it.  Sally kept a beautiful, organized, and well managed home; a skill she attributed to her mother and grandmother and is a tradition she has passed on to her children and grandchildren.

When the kids had left home, Sally began her professional career in the medical field.  Her favorite position was as an office manager at Bountiful Orthopedics Group.  She said “It was an experience of a lifetime.” She enjoyed being able to serve the patients as well as the challenge of keeping the orthopedic office running smoothly.  She talked often about being able to work with the Utah Jazz team.  She knew many of the players well.

Having a testimony and being an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was how she defined success.  She and Jim taught their children the gospel of Jesus Christ and lived by example showing how important it was to them.  She served in many callings in the church.  Her favorite was working with the young women, she loved being able to teach them and participate in girls camp.  Later in life she served in the temple with Jim.

Relationships with family and friends meant so much to Sally.  She always tried to be kind and love everyone.  Her parents and siblings, as well as her in-laws, were very important.  She kept those relationships strong by visiting and staying in contact with them. She developed many friendships over the years and relished every chance she could spend with her friends.  Up until the last days of her life, she spent regular times with her friends playing cards, going to lunch, or just visiting.

Her home was full of pictures of her 3 children and their families, they meant the world to her and she was so proud of all their accomplishments.  Most of all she was proud that they have a testimony of Jesus Christ.  She loved and spoiled all her 16 grandkids, she opened her home to each of them and enjoyed anytime spent together.

Anyone who knew Sally would say that she and Jim were inseparable, just like when they were young, they did everything together.  After Sally and Jim both retired they spent weeks and months with their 5th wheel trailer traveling to new places and visiting family.  They snowmobiled, golfed, watched the Jazz, and went to as many Utah Utes football games as possible…and it was not uncommon to find them at any sporting event that included family and friends.

The past 4 years without Jim were very difficult for her.  It is exciting to know that they have finally been reunited and will never be separated again.

Sally is preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Erma Bell, brother Arlen Bell, and husband James Sampson.  She is survived by her children, Julie (Cary) Brown, Sherie (Ken) Lawrence, and Curtis Sampson.  She has left a lasting legacy with 16 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
