Salomon “Jr” Martinez
Salomon Jr. Martinez, husband, father, grandfather, brother and tio, 70, passed away July 13, 2014 peacefully at his home after a short battle with cancer. He was born October 10, 1943 in Monte Vista, Colorado to Jose Salomon and Ramona Martinez. He married Josephine Lopez on April 17, 1965 in Kaysville, Utah. After her death in 2011, he later married Maria Encarnacion on September 28, 2012 in Farmington, Utah.
Salomon was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was very mechanically inclined and could fix anything that had a motor in it. Many family members, friends and neighbors came to him to help fix their vehicles. He passed on this trade and talent to both of his sons. He worked as a mechanic for Young Chevrolet for 30+ years and later retired from Layton City.
Salomon loved to go camping, shopping at the “Segunda” and his Wendover trips. He was devoted to his whole family. He took his grandchildren weekly, and went to every birthday party, soccer game, quincenera and dance. He loved a good party, Mexican music and food.
Salomon left behind his wife of a year, Maria Encarnacion, children: Patricia Martinez (Ron Cooper), Sunset; Isaac Martinez (Donna), Sunset; Salomon Martinez III (Mandy), Ogden; three grandchildren: Joshua Vincent Martinez, Trinity Jo Martinez, Evan Salomon Martinez, brothers: Manuel Martinez, Levi (Josephine) Martinez, Peter (Frankie) Martinez; sisters: Emma Haro, Teresa Martinez, Rosalie Gallegos, all from Ogden; and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Josephine Martinez, parents Jose Salomon and Ramona Martinez, grandmother, Delfinia Martinez, brothers Steven and Eddie Martinez, in-laws Vidal and Eloisa Lopez, Elsie Mattingly, and Frank Roy Lopez.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Friends may visit family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family would request donations to cover the funeral expenses. Donations can be made to the family.
