On January 25, 2025, our lives were forever changed with the unexpected and heartbreaking passing of our beloved Sammy. If you knew Sammy, even for a short time, you’d know that he was larger than life, and words can never fully capture who he was.
Samuel Matthew Call was born on April 9, 2000, in Ogden, Utah. He will always be loved and remembered by his mother, Jamie L. Call; father, Chad Michael Call; stepmother, Jennifer Erin Call; brother, Michael Ryan Call; sister, Elizabeth Rachel Call; brother-in-law, Trent Rose; niece, Charlotte Olivia Rose; nephew, Nixon Bode Rose; stepbrothers, Gabriel Geary (Margarita Geary) and Ryker Geary (Sarah Geary); his grandparents, Ivan C. and Laurie Taylor, great-grandmother; Carole Bell; and grandparents; Larry and Karen Call. Samuel’s memory will live on in the hearts of his many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and extended family. He shared an especially close bond with his niece and nephew, Charlotte and Nixon, who brought him immense joy. He is also survived by his cherished companion, his cat Snow.
Sam attended schools in the Ogden area and graduated in 2018 from Ogden Military Academy. Known for his kindness and joyful spirit, Sam made friends easily and left a lasting impact on everyone he met. As an adult, he worked long hours in construction with Onsite Development while also helping his father on the farm during evenings and weekends.
Sam had a deep love for his family and friends, cherishing the moments spent with them, whether one-on-one or at gatherings. He enjoyed the outdoors—whether fishing, boating, camping, or four-wheeling—either solo or with those he loved. Sam was also a talented artist and a natural musician with an eclectic taste in music. It wasn’t uncommon to hear him belting out random songs at the top of his lungs while driving his truck. Sam was a thinker and loved listening to podcasts, learning about history, and spending time gaming online with his friends, cousins, and uncle. He even humored his mom by playing Scrabble with her from time to time, recently boasting about winning their most recent game.
Our big teddy bear with long beautiful golden curls was fun-loving and outgoing. Sam had a gift for making friends wherever he went. You could put him in a room full of strangers, and by the time he left, he’d have made friends with everyone. He was selfless—he would give the shirt off his back for someone he just met. And if he didn’t have a shirt, he’d buy one. Always putting others before himself, Sam was the first to offer help and always tried to make people feel comfortable with his warm smile and infectious laugh. That laugh will forever be stuck in the minds of those who heard it. Those who knew him understood that you’d always know where you stood, because Sam was not afraid to tell it like it was. But whether good or bad, this meant that you never once doubted how deeply he loved you. A genuine, caring, empathetic person, Sam loved and lived big.
The lives of everyone who knew Sammy are forever changed by his boisterous, generous, and kind spirit. There are no words to express the sorrow we feel with this loss. However, those of us left behind are committed to honoring his memory by living lives full of love, joy, and the same kindness that Sam extended to all of us.
Sammy would want us to celebrate his life by continuing to love and care for one another and to keep on laughing. Catch some big fish for us, Sammy, and we’ll see you soon.
Samuel Matthew Call was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, Terry and Evelyn Call; great-grandparents, Warren and Marilyn Christensen; great-step-aunt, Rachel Wirz; great-grandmother, Genevieve Farr Taylor; and his beloved nephew, Oliver Allen Rose.
