Samuel William Creel, 14, passed away in a tragic drowning accident while trying to save his friend who had fallen through the ice at Glasmann Pond in South Ogden, Utah, on Monday, January 27, 2025.
Sam was born at St. Marks Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 15, 2010, to Matthew Creel and Liana Larsen. He lived in Salt Lake for the first few years of his life.
When Sam was 4, his mother met Nathan Gidley. Soon Liana and Nate fell in love, they became a family, and over the next few years they moved to Layton, Ogden, and eventually to their home in South Ogden. Their multi-generational household includes Sam’s grandfather Spencer, Nate and Liana, Sam’s older brother Landon and little brother Logan. Nate’s family added love, togetherness, and activities with Sam as a full participant.
Sam was always in motion. He loved to go fast. Sam loved trains, planes, cars, school buses, snowplows, bikes, and almost any machine that moved. He could talk for hours about different school bus designs, makers, model numbers, engines, years of production, etc. He spoke often of one day having his own school bus to take Logan to school.
As he got older, he loved to take things apart and put them back together. Sometimes, as with all of us, there were “extra parts” left over.
Sam was smart with unlimited curiosity and non-stop questions. He truly loved learning new things and shared that knowledge freely. He enjoyed having friends and was looking forward to going to high school.
Sam joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on April 22, 2023, with help from the full-time missionaries. He enjoyed his church activities and friendships.
From the time Sam was small he wanted to become a Firefighter or a Policeman. In the last year of his life, he rode his bike to several stations and spoke with the on-duty First Responders. He treasured and often talked about the trinkets and information he collected.
