Samuel R. Garrett Jr., beloved husband, father and a man of honor, strength and integrity, passed away at home on March 19, 2015, from complications from Alzheimer’s and 80 years of age. Sam was born in 1934 in Declo, ID to Samuel & Ethel Garrett. He graduated from Burley High School. He then served 3 years on an LDS mission in Samoa. He Married DelJeanne Bronson who preceded him in death. Sam served in the U.S. Army. Later, Sam attended Utah State University, Logan, Utah, where he studied welding and agricultural mechanics. Sam spent most of his married life living in Prescott, Washington, where he continued to raise his family of 12 children. He also worked for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the Preventative Maintenance Group. After Sam lost DelJeanne, he married long-time friend, Willie Mae Newman Deaver in 2000. He then retired to Kaysville, to be closer to most of his family.

Sam is preceded in death by his parents, a sister Lois, his brothers, Jay Rex and Ivan, and his first wife, DelJeanne.

Sam is survived by his wife, Mae and his 12 children: Tobin and Jelayne Garrett of West Point, Utah, Robert and Jene’ Terry of Kearns, Utah, John and Samara Roberts of Blackfoot, Idaho, Clint and Luceta Eggli of Tremonton, Utah, Hugh and Anita Garrett of Kaysville, Utah, Drew and Elitia Burkey of Layton, Utah, Avery and Desiree Garrett of Portsmouth, Virginia, Marinda Garrett of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Spencer and Mitchell Garrett of Lauderhill, Florida, Foster and Jessica Garrett of Stirling, Canada, Parker and Natasha Garrett, of Syracuse, Utah, and Malin and Emily Garrett of Syracuse, Utah. He also leaves a legacy of 51 grand and 7 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by Mae’s 3 children: Darrell and Shelga Barfield of Rocky Mountain, North Carolina, Louis and Charlene Vasquez of Washington D.C., and John and Jamie Durking of Ackron, Ohio. Sam is also survived by two brothers; Kenneth and Edward, and by his exchange student and family friend Takako and her husband Mike Graviet.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Kaysville 7th Ward LDS Chapel located at 331 South 50 West, Kaysville, UT. Friends and family are invited to meet with Sam’s family at Lindquist’s Kaysville Mortuary, 400 No. Main on Wednesday evening, March 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday at the church from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will be at the Sunny Cedar Rest Cemetery in Almo, Idaho at 3:00 p.m.

He was a true friend and will be greatly missed.
