In Loving Memory of Samuel Adam Perkins
It is with heavy hearts and profound love for our brother that we announce the passing of Sam Perkins who was reunited with our family in heaven on January 19, 2025 at the age of 46. Sam grew up in Kaysville, Utah the son of Richard and Kathleen Perkins. He attended school at Monte Vista Elementary, Farmington Jr. High, and graduated from Davis High School in 1998. Sam was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when he was 13 years old by his brother Josh. He loved helping and serving at church and was ordained to the office of a Teacher so that he could help prepare the Sacrament on Sundays.
Sam had Down Syndrome and he lived his life full of joy with perseverance in body, mind, and spirit. He showed us every day that he would challenge the narrative of being born with a disability, instead demonstrating that there were no limitations, inspiring us all to embrace the wonders in our experiences and strive to push the boundary of our own capabilities.
Sam competed in the Special Olympics in swimming events. He watched and played basketball with enthusiasm. He loved his baby nieces and nephews until they were old enough to take his toys, then he would like them again after they got a little older. He had absolutely no fears until later in life when he became afraid of heights. Some of his favorite things were cheese and all kinds of food, animals, alligators, sharks, dinosaurs, and Hot Wheels cars. Many memories were made going on family trips, swimming in the pool, jumping on the tramp, boating, spending time together at holidays and birthdays, sports events, and watching all genres of movies together - the cartoon ones, the action packed ones, and the romantic and sentimental ones; he was empathetic and felt every possible emotion immersing himself into the character's stories.
Sam lived in group home services during 2024 and had the best year ever! He worked with wonderful caregivers, had roommates, attended a day program, and went to Lagoon all summer long going on Terror Ride a dozen or more times in a row. Our family is grateful to Mikey's Place, Forever You, and the many others that have cared for him these last few years and helped us provide Sam a more independent and purposeful life. Yes Sam, you can buy 'one car' every day now.
Sam was preceded in death by grandparents, dad and mom, and two brothers Richard and Robb. He is survived by siblings Susan (James) Butler, Kayleen (Aaron) Rich, Joshua (Maribel) Stinger, Kristy (Darell) Jensen, 17 nieces and nephews, their spouses and their children, the "greats". Sam will forever be remembered for his hugs, friendship and smile. He was a true gift to all who knew him. His life was a testament to the power of unconditional love and the importance of living with a full and open heart.
