Samuel Archie Ruybal, Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather, passed away September 19, 2019, after a short but valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.
Sam was born on August 26, 1928, in Conejos County, CO near Manassa and Alamosa, and recently celebrated his 91st birthday.
He was the first born son of Samuel Ruybal and Amilker Velma Duran. The family later relocated to Delta, CO where Sam was joined by six brothers and four sisters, Elma Carrera (deceased), Roger, Robert (deceased) (Patsy), Alex (Josephine), George (Katherine), Twilla Johnson (Kregg), Larry (Jeanie), Wilma Sandoval (Moses), Wesley, Valerie Whittaker (Earl).
Sam served in the United States Armed Forces and was Honorably Discharged in 1949.
He worked at Hill Air Force Base, UT on the flight line and later in Logistics, retiring after 25 years of service. He also worked at Clearfield Job Corp as a small appliance mechanic.
Sam was the father of seven children; Ruben Ruybal (Pam), Robert Ruybal (Lety), Carmen Boog (Bruce), Val Ruybal, Gail Kurr (Daniel), Patrick Ruybal (Kathy), Ellen Goodwin (Vince) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was married to Carmen Carrera for 65 years, his sweetheart and partner in all aspects of life. They enjoyed bowling (she kicked his butt), and golfed for 35 years (repeat butt kicking) and could still be seen on the golf course until eight years ago. They would have continued longer but Sam never learned to swing a golf club while using a cane.
He was well loved for his wit (at least his kids thought so) and storytelling and mellowed with age and his infirmities…We love you Sam; Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Great-Grandfather. Until we meet again...
