Samuel Lee

December 21, 1976 — August 23, 2021

Samuel Yoosin Lee

12/21/1976 – 8/23/2021

Sam Lee passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2021.  He was born in Seoul, Republic of Korea on Dec 21, 1976 to Daniel and Sang Jung Lee, and grew up in Colorado as a proud Army brat.  His adult life was characterized by one word—service.  Service to country, Service to family, Service to God, Service to his fellow man.

He followed his father’s example of service and entered the Air Force in 1995 at Lackland AFB, Texas, as an F-16 Avionics Technician.  His first and last Air Force assignments were at Hill AFB in Utah.  In between, Sam served at Cannon AFB in New Mexico, Nellis AFB in Nevada, and Kunsan AB and Osan AB, in the Republic of Korea, with three combat deployments to Southwest Asia and Afghanistan.

Sam excelled as an aircraft maintenance technician and especially as a flightline supervisor, always showing incredible compassion and skill serving and taking care of his Airmen, with complete dedication to the F-16 and F-35 combat missions.  He retired as a master sergeant from the 421st Aircraft Maintenance Unit in the 388th Fighter Wing at Hill AFB in Dec 2019 after 24 years of faithful service.

Following his retirement from active duty, Sam joined the First Command Financial Planning team in Layton as a financial advisor, once again, proudly serving and taking care of the financial needs of military families, helping secure their future financial security.  He finished his working years as an F-16 Aircraft Equipment Specialist working for the Sumaria Systems, Inc. at Hill AFB and serving our country’s warfighters.

Sam met the love of his life, Michelle Lee, while stationed at Kunsan AB, during one of his four tours to Korea.  Their beautiful daughters, Gia and Mia, were born during their assignment to Nellis AFB.  They were the light of his life.  If you wanted to see Sam beam with pride and joy, all you had to do was ask him about the girls and he would light up from ear to ear.  His love for Michelle and the girls propelled Sam to work tirelessly and lovingly while on active duty and after his military retirement to ensure their security and well-being.

Sam is survived by Michelle, Gia, and Mia, as well as his parents, Daniel and Sang Jung of Georgia, and his sister, Esther Lee, of California.

Sam was a dedicated and loving husband, father, son, brother, financial advisor, Airman, and loyal friend.  We will all miss him more than words can describe.
