Samuel Boyd Smith
1929-2018
Boyd Smith passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, in Centerville, Utah, he was 89 years old.
He was born in Malad, Idaho on May 19, 1929 and lived in Malad until he went on a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the Texas Louisiana Mission. In 1952 he married Mahon Ashcraft and they have been together ever since. Shortly after his marriage he was called to serve his country during the Korean War and was a Chaplin’s assistant in the United States Army being stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. He graduated college from Utah State University and taught school in Davis County. He received his Master’s Degree from Brigham Young University and was an avid BYU fan.
Together they were called on 5 missions for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They served in the Toronto Canada Temple, 3 missions in the Orlando Florida Temple and an 18-month mission in Nauvoo, Illinois.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mahon Smith, and four children; son Dennis (Lori) Smith of Orlando, Florida, his daughters Pam (Paul) Isaac of West Valley City, Utah, Julie (Lon) Brian of Layton, Utah and Lalli (Ron) Durrant of Centerville, Utah. Boyd and Mahon have 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 2, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Porter Lane 2nd Ward Chapel, 436 W. 400 S. Centerville UT. Friends may visit Sunday evening from 6-7:30 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. Bountiful, and on Monday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Interment at Centerville City Cemetery.
