Sandie Lynne Johnson

Sandie Lynne Unbedacht Johnson returned to her Heavenly Father on December 16, 2014 following a long and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Sandie was born on September 8, 1954 in Seattle, Washington to Clyde and Geraldine Jones Unbedacht.  She was the first of five children.

She was raised and attended school in Kent, Washington.  Following her high school graduation she attended Brigham Young University where she met the love of her life, Allan Reiley Johnson.

She and Allan were married on December 27, 1977 in the Idaho Falls Temple and were blessed with three wonderful daughters.  When their youngest daughter began school, Sandie returned to school to finish her BA degree in English.  She then continued her educational pursuits and earned a BS and MS in Social Work.

Sandie was an amazing person.  During her three year battle with cancer, she never gave up her hope for a complete recovery.  In her last days, she was planning and completely expected to have a family Christmas gathering at a local resort where she could watch her grandchildren play and swim.  She loved her husband, her children, and her grandchildren dearly, and was dearly loved by each of them.

She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in numerous positions throughout her life.  Her testimony of the Savior and His Plan of Happiness was strong to the very end.  She was an extremely creative person who looked at things not as they were, but how they would be after she applied her creative genius to them.

She was instinctively kind and unselfish.  Her main desire was to help others who had been abused or found themselves struggling in life. It gave her great joy helping others in need.

She counseled hundreds of individuals, many of which she never asked a penny. She was known for giving many of her own things away (TVs, vacuums, fans, cooking appliances, heaters, etc.) because, “they needed those things more than we did.”

Not one to seek public attention, she did her best work one-on-one.  Those who received that special one-on-one attention from Sandie were indeed blessed because of their experience.

Besides her ability to reach out, she was also blessed with a green thumb and an exceptional vision for landscaping.

She is survived by her husband, and her three children, Sarah Jane Funk (Jacob), Melissa Lane McAllister (Matthew), and Carrie Lynne Elkins (Scott), and her six grandchildren (Rylee, Alivia, Porter and Sam Funk, Davis and Landon McAllister).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Kays Creek Ward, 2435 E. Canyon Rim, Layton, Utah.  At Sandie’s request there will be no public viewing.
