Sandra Lee Olson Löfgren
December 12, 1958 ~ June 16, 2015
Sandra Lee Olson Löfgren returned to her Heavenly Father on June 16, 2015. Everybody who knew her would agree that she always wanted to help people in any way she could.
Sandra was born 12 December 1958, to Hartley E. and Margaret Van De Graff Olson. She was the oldest with two younger sisters. She was born and raised in the South Ogden, Utah area, where her father was a pharmacist. She attended Parkview and Burch Creek Elementary schools, South Junior High School, Bonneville High School, Brigham Young University, and Stevens Henager Business College.
After studies at BYU and Stevens Henager Sandra served a faithful LDS mission in Stockholm, Sweden, which country and people she came to love. She maintained her Swedish language skills her entire life.
On her mission she got to know, and subsequently falling in love with, her future husband, Tony Löfgren. They were sealed for time and all eternity in the Ogden LDS Temple on 26 July 1984. A few months after their wedding Tony joined the Army, and they relocated to Fort Ord, California.
While in the Army they started their family. In a span of ten years, Sandra would be the mother to five sons and two daughters.
After Tony’s enlistment ended they moved back to Utah, where Sandra dedicated her life to taking care of her family. This was made challenging by Tony’s continued involvement with the military, where he spent long periods of time away from her and the children on various deployments.
But Sandra wasn’t only concerned about her immediate family; everyone she came across was a new person she would try to do something for. During her adult life she was involved in Utah Army National Guard Family Readiness Group, reaching out to, and trying to help, soldiers and family members in the Guard. She was a Red Cross CPR and First Aid instructor. Sandra was a volunteer officer in the US Naval Sea Cadet Corps, where she would mentor and help train adolescent boys and girls involved in that program. As part of her involvement with the Sea Cadets she became a certified SCUBA diver.
When Tony’s work moved him to Leesville, Louisiana, Sandra moved there with him, and took a job at Fort Polk. Initially she was a role player, helping provide soldiers with realistic training for upcoming deployments. But within a few months her hard work and talents brought her in to the Role Play Operations Center, where she was instrumental in keeping operations running smoothly.
After returning to Utah she went to work for Lagoon as a Loss Prevention Officer and dispatcher.
Sandra loved traveling and camping, walking for fitness, gardening, photography, natural medicine, and crocheting. But most of all she loved taking care of her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband and seven beautiful children; Stephen, Leesville, LA; David Hooper, UT; Christine, Leesville, LA; Curtis, Leesville, LA; Kevin, Hooper, UT; Erik, Riverdale, UT; and Jennifer, Hooper, UT. She is also survived by her sisters: Karen (Allen) Windley, and Judy (Brent) Taylor. There are also two children she considered her grandchildren, Alex and Ella Ritchie, Angola, NY. Sandra also loved all her many nieces and nephews.
Sandra was preceded in death by her beloved parents.
A viewing in her honor will be Sunday, 21 June 2015, from 6-8 pm at the Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 W. 5600 S., Roy, UT. Graveside services and interment will be Monday, 22 June 2015 at 1 pm, at the Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 17111 S. Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, UT.
Too many people to mention individually here has reached out offering help, prayers, words of comfort, etc. Know that we as a family deeply appreciate it all. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Heart Association would be greatly appreciated.
While we are mourning and saddened by our loss, we are also uplifted by the knowledge that she is being treated with absolute and perfect love by her Heavenly Father. We know that she is in the good, perfect, loving hands of her Heavenly Father. Families truly are forever, and some day we will have the privilege of being with our beloved Sandra again.
