Sandra Steele Westover

December 14, 1941 ~ March 15, 2020

Sandra Steele Westover, age 78, passed peacefully Sunday, March 15, 2020, in her Roy, UT home surrounded by family. She was born in Ogden, UT on December 14, 1941 to Blaine LeRoy Steele and Arthella Stewart Steele. She married her high school sweetheart Jawin Clark Westover on May 24, 1963, in the Logan Utah Temple.

Sandra graduated in 1960 from Ben Lomond High School where she enjoyed being a Bonnie Lassie. She received an Associate Degree at Weber College and was a member of the Lambda Delta Sigma Sorority. She went onto attend Utah State University, focusing her studies on Home Economics Education.

Her first job was at the original Warren’s Drive-In working as a car hop. She worked at the IRS, for several direct sales companies and as a secretary for two Commanders of missile programs, a Veteran’s Hospital, and the USU Ogden Campus.

Sandra and Jawin raised their family in Ogden, UT, Pleasant View, UT, Lompoc, CA, Cheyenne, WY, North Ogden, UT and Roy, UT. They lived in 14 different homes creating many gardens and flower beds together, keeping many nurseries in business. Sandra loved playing the piano, reading, sewing, canning and decorating. She was a wonderful cook and an expert hostess. She helped in the PTA, taught Girl Scouts and volunteered as an election official. She and Jawin participated in square dancing clubs and conventions. Sandra loved camping, visiting National and State Parks, and spending time with her family at the cabin in the Uintas. She had a deep love and a lot of pride in her family’s history and was heavily involved with the Daughters of Utah Pioneers (DUP) and the Farr Family Organizations.

Sandra was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She magnified many callings and had a strong testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ. She served in Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women’s, as a ward and stake missionary, as a dedicated and loving visiting teacher, emergency preparedness coordinator and most recently as a Relief Society pianist and ward family history consultant. She and Jawin thoroughly enjoyed serving as Host Missionaries at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building for more than 10 years.

Sandra had a wonderful and witty sense of humor. She always had her family giggling with her funny responses, phrases and facial expressions. She would laugh endlessly when she got together with her mom, sisters, and aunts. Sandra was a loyal and dedicated friend, whose loving nature quickly put people at ease and made them feel comfortable. She cultivated many lifelong friendships that she held very dear and was loved by many of her children’s friends. Sandra was an amazing example of unconditional love and enduring to the end. Her doctor’s called her the Energizer Bunny who kept on going.

Sandra is survived by her husband, Jawin; five children, Laurie (Ron) Graham of Roy, UT; Susan Hunter, Annette (Chad) Hazeldine of Greeley, CO; Kathy (Kit) Baker of Clearfield, UT; and John (Kaydee) Westover of Clearfield, UT; five grandchildren, Lisa, Maizey, Chloe, Logan, Katelyn; two great-grandchildren, Evan and Lily; eight step-grandchildren, Amanda, Kitty, Tiffany, Jenifer, Jessica, Elizabeth, Allison, and Danielle; and two great-step-grandchildren, Avy and Jackson; her sister, Debra Clarke; and sister-in-law, Renee Steele; and in-laws, Chris Nix, Julyn Tanaka, Don (Lydia) Westover, Janna (Charlie) Roberts, Glenda King, Gloria (Phil) Anderson, and Ted (Wanda) Westover.
