Sandra Greenwood Youngman

1943 ~ 2014

Sandra Greenwood Youngman passed away on October 4, 2014 in the comfort of her own home in Layton, Utah, due to on-going health complications.  She was the fourth of five children born on May 1, 1943 to Barnard Hartley and Bernice Kofoed Greenwood.  She attended Ogden City Schools and graduated from Ben Lomond High School, where she was a cheerleader and made many lifelong friends.  She attended Weber State College, where she also enjoyed cheerleading.   She married her high school sweetheart, Kent Youngman on September 21, 1962, in the Logan L.D.S Temple.  The couple made their home in Ogden where they raised their 6 children, later moving to East Layton following Kent’s retirement.

Mom’s first and foremost passion in her life was being a mother and grandmother.  She dedicated her time, talents, devotion and love to motherhood.  She was happiest when she was attending all of her children and grandchildren’s numerous activities.  She loved having family gatherings and created wonderful grandma moments for her grandkids, and was always the best playmate any kid could ever have.  Mom was at the heart of family traditions, including; Christmas breakfast, Christmas lights at the park, individualized birthday parties, game nights, campouts, family reunions, and picnics.  She also loved facilitating family activities around each holiday throughout the year.  Mom loved the outdoors and all of God’s creations and always pointed out to her family what she called “the beauty of the earth.”  Some of her favorite things were the color yellow, the mountains, music, reading, scrapbooking, gardening, and talking.

Sandra was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served selflessly in numerous church callings, some of which included:  Primary President and teacher, Relief Society President and teacher and numerous Stake callings.  She loved serving as a girl’s basketball and softball coach, and was a devoted visiting teacher.  She found joy in watching her children and grandchildren grow in the gospel of Jesus Christ and loved attending all of their blessings, baptisms, and ordinations.  Mom had many spiritual gifts but perhaps her greatest gift was that of Teacher.  Mom was both a student of the gospel and of life, and had a unique ability to help others through their trials.  She had an unwavering testimony of the Savior and His gospel and was always willing to teach with understanding and love.  She created an atmosphere in her home where many of her children’s friends, and others, found solace and unconditional love.

Mom loved and appreciated her siblings and the many memories they shared together over the years. She had many nieces and nephews whom she also loved dearly and she greatly enjoyed being invited into their homes where they shared many fun and cherished times.  She had a great love for her mother of 97 years, and still enjoyed playing Scrabble together with her and her sister Karen.

Sandra is survived by her husband G. Kent Youngman, her children:  Lori (Mark) Hendry, Ty (Tami) Youngman, Jamie (Jeff) Hass, Kari (Justin) Knight, Brad Youngman, Mandy Youngman (Brent Nelson).  She is survived by 15 grandchildren:  Garrett (Mindy) Hendry, Whitney (Matt) Marigoni, Morgan (Alex) Fetters, Kenzie Hendry, Grayson and Bridger Youngman, Jaden (Shalee) Hass, Mykell, Dakota and Conner Hass. Caeden, Benton, Abby and Bowen Knight, Taylie Nelson, and she loved being grandma great, to Alba Marigoni.

She is also survived by her mother (mama), Bernice Greenwood and siblings: Zell Rae Rhoads, Karen Howard, Barnard (Nancy) Greenwood and Brent (Sandi) Greenwood.  She was preceded in death by her father (daddy), BH Greenwood.

To our dear Mother, we thank you for your unconditional love and the example you have shown us through the life you have lived.  You will be forever in our hearts until we meet again.

We would also like to acknowledge and thank our Father for the years of love and selfless service he has rendered unto Mom, as she has struggled with many health issues.  Our thoughts and love are also with him at this difficult time.
