Schooley Davis Wilcoxon, 79, passed away Thursday, September 8, 2011 at his home.
He was born October 3, 1931 in Columbia Township, Johnson County, Missouri to Maurice Earnest and Vivian Irene Campbell Wilcoxon. He was raised and educated in Missouri. He lived in Wyoming, Alaska and Colorado, moving frequently for work assignments, but settled in Ogden where he spent the last several decades. After high school he obtained his Bachelor of Science in Education from the Central Missouri State University.
Schooley served his country on the front lines in the US Army during the Korean Conflict.
He married Margaret Sue Yates on January 3, 1958 in Miami, Oklahoma and they later divorced. On April 1, 1995, Schooley married Peggy Jane Williams Pontius in Salt Lake City.
Schooley was a school teacher for many years, a Certified Safety Professional Consultant Engineer, Gates Rubber Co. and Fluer in Alaska building the Alaska Pipeline. He also worked for Bear Creek Uranium finishing his career with Thiokol Chemical Corporation, retiring in 1994. While in Douglas, WY he helped with the planning and building of the Douglas Middle School.
He was a life member of the National Education Association, American Society of Safety Engineers Professional, Board of Certified Safety Professional (RET), Past President of Colorado and Wyoming ASSE. He was also a Mason, Scottish Rite, York Rite and Shriners, and served as Potentate of Utah at one time and served extensively with the Order of the Eastern Star. Schooley was a hard worker and loved people and he was a wonderful father.
Schooley is survived by his wife, Peggy; five children, Charissa (Bryan) Newton, New Zealand; Elizabeth Wilcoxon-Hopper, Douglas, WY; Shawn Wilcoxon, Douglas, WY; Pamela Sue Mahoffey, Salt Lake City, UT; and John M. Pontius, Amarillo, TX; nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; one brother and two sisters, all of Missouri.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 15th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.
The family will meet with friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary.
