LAYTON a€" Scott Sanford Whitesides, 50, passed away Thursday, October 3, 2013 of complications from pneumonia and respiratory failure.

He was born August 11, 1963 in Salt Lake City, Utah the eldest son of Max and LaRae Woodward Whitesides.

Scott worked for Big-D Construction for nearly 24 years, rising through the ranks from journeyman carpenter through field engineer to workshop supervisor. He was a key part of the crew for many of Utah''s most visible construction projects, including the Olympic Village, the Salt Lake City Library, and most of all, the Scott M. Matheson Courthouse. He always said that he scratched a giant "SCOTT" onto the front porch of the courthouse so that everyone would know that it was his baby. He loved Big-D, his career and all of the people he worked with; they were always like a second family to him.

But his true joy came later in his life a€" his marriage to Jennifer Kirk on May 22, 2002 and the eventual birth of his dear son, Weston. Scott took great pride in his family history and loved to share it with his boy. He liked to take him fishing, train-spotting and visiting with friends and said "I Love You" to his wife and child at least once every day. They were even his final words.

Scott was funny, sweet, brave and strong. He was a good husband, father, son, brother and friend and he will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Surviving are his wife Jennifer, son Weston Whitesides, parents Max and LaRae Whitesides, his brother Bret (Marci) Whitesides and his sister, Teresa (Mark) Neville.

Preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road. Family may visit friends Wednesday from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment, So. Morgan Cemetery.
