Selby G. (Jim) Tanner
LAYTON a" Selby G. (Jim) Tanner, 89, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010. He was born December 29, 1920 in Salt Lake City, UT, the only child of Dan Lewis Tanner and Phoebe Tidwell. At the passing of his mother when he was nine, he was raised by Will Jesson in the Uintah Basin area.
"Jim" married Arvella Hansen on April 6, 1946. He worked at Hill Air Force Base, retiring after 33 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army and was a World War II Veteran.
He had a passion for living and as his health began to fail in later years, did not want to give up. In recent years he always wanted to go for long rides and have lunch. He loved horses, the outdoors, wildlife, hunting and flying. He was a "true cowboy" and never went anywhere without his cowboy hat.
Surviving are two sons, John J. (Billie) Tanner, Idaho Falls, ID; Blaine L. (Becky) Tanner, Layton; two daughters, Joan (Mike) Tanner Francom, Kaysville; Marilyn (Mick) Tanner Stanger, Farmington; 20 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren. Also survived by two sons from a previous marriage, Dan and Ralph.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 2 p.m. at the Syracuse City Cemetery, 1290 S. 1000 W. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 N. Fairfield Road.
