Selma Martha Nicholas Wilson

October 16, 1920 ~ August 19, 2015

Selma Martha Nicholas Wilson, 94, our mom, grandma, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on the morning of August 19, 2015.  She was born on October 16, 1920, in Trenton, UT, to John Eldred Nicholas and Trilby Inez Brown.

She grew up in Ogden, UT.  She married her sweetheart, Max Robert Wilson, in Ogden, and they were later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple.

Selma was always resourceful.  While Max served in the army during World War II, she and her sister finished building their family home on Canyon Road.  They later moved to South Weber where they raised their six girls.

She worked for Carpenter Paper Company with her dad and later retired from Hill Air Force Base.

Selma’s interests included her family and friends, traveling, crocheting, quilting, reading, and word puzzles.  She made dozens of afghans and cherished hand-stitched quilts for her children and grandchildren throughout the years.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  She served in various callings in her ward including Jr. Sunday School Coordinator, Relief Society President, and visiting teacher.  She was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.  She taught piano lessons and was an accomplished organist.  She loved to cook and she was an excellent seamstress and sewed all her girls’ clothes as they grew up.

Her grandchildren loved to visit her and always enjoyed taffy, jelly beans, and Hershey’s Hugs.  She was their teacher and confidant.  She enjoyed going to lunch with her daughters and getting together with them and their husbands for dinner out.  Mom touched many lives over the years with her sense of humor and her unconditional love for all of us.

After her children were raised, she and Max enjoyed their winters in Quartzsite, AZ, where they met many life-long friends.

Selma is survived by her daughters Linda (Marlin) Balls, Mt. Green; Becky (Roger) Parrish, South Weber; Susie (Bruce) Nilson, Uintah; and Marilyn (Brad) Sims, Farr West; son-in-law, Ray Peek, South Weber; 23 grandchildren, 70 great-grandchildren, and two-great-great-grandsons, three brothers, John, Ralph, and Leonard Nicholas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max; infant son, Mark; her two daughters, Shelley Wilson and Karen Peek; four sisters, and two brothers.

A special thanks to her dear friend, Adriana Volk, who cared for her for several years.  Also, thank you to Ruby, Eryn, Sarah, Stephanie, Miller, and Tammy.  She loved you all.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit family on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Ogden City Cemetery.
