Setsuko "Judy" Shiozawa Grant

CLEARFIELD - Setsuko "Judy" Shiozawa Grant, age 91, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt peacefully passed away at home, Saturday, April 14, 2012. A good and faithful daughter of our Heavenly Father, she was born in Rigby, Idaho, February 11, 1921, to Heijiro and Kane Fukura Shiozawa. When her mother died she and brother, Shiro, lived with relatives in Japan, returning to America before World War II. After graduating from Logan High she received a nursing diploma from Salt Lake General Hospital in 1944. She did private duty nursing and worked at the Dee and McKay/Dee hospitals as an RN in the emergency and operating rooms. In 1964 she earned a BS degree in Public Health Nursing from the University of Utah and worked for Davis County Public Health Department until retiring in 1986. In 1964 she began as a part-time RN at the Clearfield Job Corps Wellness Clinic working there until December 2011 (age 90).

In 1946 she married Wallace Everett Grant, Jr., in Hawaii. During their marriage they lived in Hawaii, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Japan. They divorced in 1959.

A resident of Clearfield since 1958, she was active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings.

Setsuko loved her immediate and extended family and traveled extensively to visit them across the country and in Japan. Her yard reflects her love of gardening as she spent many hours planting and nurturing her plants. Similarly, she loved and nurtured her grandchildren. Her home was often filled with laughter of grandchildren as she welcomed and cared for them. She will be greatly missed for her unconditional love. Unkind words were foreign to her. She gently loved and cared for all who were her patients, friends, neighbors, family and anyone who entered her life.

She enjoyed skiing and was an avid square dancer until January 2012. Judy danced throughout the U. S., Europe, New Zealand and Australia, with several groups, including the "Single Swingers."

She is survived by her children, Betty Jo (Dennis) Campnell, Sandra K., Larry W. (Janet), Darlene, and John E. (Susan), 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and her older brother George. Her parents, sister, Shizue, brothers, Sam, Kenji, Shiro, Joseph Kumagae, and Roy preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the Clearfield LDS Stake Center, 935 South State Street. Friends may visit family on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Clearfield City Cemetery.

Special thanks to dear friends and Hearts for Hospice who provided loving visits and care.
