Shane Manuel Zapien
April 20, 1968 ~ January 2, 2019
Shane Zapien beloved brother and uncle, passed away from an accident involving a front runner train in Orem.
Shane is preceded in death by his father Manuel Minuz Zapien , mother Marjorie Zapien, and grandma Mary Nichols. He is survived by a brother Dex (Kristi) Larsen, and two sisters, Lori Schmitz and Stefanie Gillen, and many other family members.
Shane graduated from Roy High School in 1987. He was employed in the food service industry, janitorial service, and was currently employed at Life Skills Vocational Center in Midvale.
Shane enjoyed muscle cars, Lagoon, riding his bike, camping, fishing, boating, and knee boarding. He loved movies including Wizard of Oz, Beetlejuice, and Ace Ventura. Shane was a very upbeat positive person and would brighten any room he walked into. He did live his life to the fullest enjoying everything he experienced. He did not let his disability get in the way of anything. I don’t think he knew his limitations with his disability and didn’t ever look at himself as any better or worse than anyone. He was just a guy like anybody else. Shane was a true believer in Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, and magic. Shane participated in Special Olympics receiving many gold, silver, and bronze medal awards.
Shane will be greatly missed but will leave a lasting impression and memory to all who knew him. We want to give an enormous thank you to the staff at Mesa Vista, who helped give Shane the amazing life he had, Karen, Sandy, Gene, Ellie, David, Maureen, Libni, Renee, Jase, and Brad. We would also like to say thank you to Sorando, Amy, and Faye for being such good friends to Shane.
To our Shane, for now we all say goodbye and we love you so very much, Bud.
