Shannon Rothey Carter

1959 ~ 2018

Shannon Rothey Carter passed away peacefully at her home on February 25, 2018. Shannon was born on February 14, 1959, in Ogden, Utah to Lee Roy and Patricia Mordaunt Rothey.  Their family included ten children; seven daughters, and three sons.

Shannon graduated from Ogden High School Class of 1977 and continued her medical education in nursing, earning a degree from Weber State University. She was an excellent student and loved learning.

Shannon and Michael J. Carter were married in Ogden, UT, on August 1, 1980 and later sealed in the Ogden LDS Temple. Following their marriage they settled in Harrisville, Utah, and raised five children.

She worked as a registered nurse for several decades. Some of her greatest memories and friends were made while caring for others as a nurse. She was an excellent swimmer and diver.  She loved spending time with her family at their cabins near Montpelier and Island Park, Idaho.  She had too many friends to count and was full of hilarious stories of goodhearted misadventures. She was a voracious reader and loved to watch classic movies. Shannon was never happier than when she was spending time with her grandchildren.

Shannon is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Brett (Amanda), Chase (Breanne), Austin (Devre), Shawnee (Ryan) Benson, Ryan (Tahler); and 10 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Thayne Rothey; and sisters, Lisa Rothey and Michele Norman.

The love we give away is the only love we keep. Shannon gave so much love to us.  Mom, we will miss you!

Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.  Friends may visit family on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Gardens of the Wasatch, 1718 Combe Rd.
