Sharan Virginia Phillips Cloyd
NORTH OGDEN - Our mother, wife, sister, aunt and friend passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 21, 2011, from complications brought on by multiple health issues.
The fifth of seven children, Sharan was born on August 7, 1964 in Merced, California to Victor and Virginia Phillips. Growing up as the youngest girl in a family with five boys, she learned to be feisty at an early age. Sharan Phillips was the kind of girl that could spend an afternoon playing football in the mud with her brothers, and that evening steal the heart of some unsuspecting boy with her beauty and feminine charm.
In 1973, her family moved from Merced to Logan, Utah. She attended Ellis Elementary, Logan Jr. High and Logan Senior High, where she was voted ''Most Outgoing'' by her graduating class of 1982. Sharan''s personality was vivacious, infectious, and larger than life. She earned the nickname ''Bubbles'' from her friends in their attempt to describe who she was, always ''bubbling over'' with excitement.
Sharan was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission for the Church in Columbus, Ohio from 1985-87.
She was a loyal friend, a loving daughter and a caring sister. Whenever there was trouble, you knew without a doubt she was on your side. Her capacities to feel what others feel and give love unselfishly were her defining characteristics. If you were down, and she knew about it, she would always come around. By the time she left you''d feel valued and loved, and worthy of both. That was her gift.
Nowhere did her capacity to love shine brighter than with her daughter Mikaela. She was a doting mother, the ultimate cheerleader and a fierce protector. Perhaps she knew that she wasn''t going to be around long, because she gave her little girl more love in 16 years than most people receive in a lifetime.
Sharan attended Utah State University, graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. While attending USU, Sharan met and fell in love with Troy Cloyd, an Air Force Reservist whose mother she was "visiting teaching" for the LDS Church. In April of 2002, Sharan and Troy were married. Sharan, Troy and Mikaela made a home in North Ogden, Utah, together with Troy''s two daughters, Lindsay and McKenzie, whom she also loved very much. In April of 2010, Sharan and Troy solemnized their marriage in the Bountiful LDS Temple.
She is survived by her husband, Troy; three daughters, Lindsay, McKenzie and Mikaela; siblings, Christine of Logan, UT; Jenny (Paul) Phillips, Rexburg, ID; Victor (Lisa) Phillips, Hyde Park, UT; Nelson (Michelle) Phillips, Perry, UT; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Sharan was preceded in death by her mother, father, and brother, Michael.
Over the last decade, Sharan''s health began failing her. In spite of her physical frailties and chronic pain, she always had a smile, a hug, a word of encouragement and a couch for anyone that needed one. The loss we feel at her passing is equal to the love she gave us. For that, we are extremely blessed because our sense of loss is nearly unbearable.
We miss you, Sharan.
