Sharon Whitesides Cottle, age 78, our very loved mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, and friend returned home to her Father in Heaven to be with her husband and daughter on July 20, 2022.
Mom was born, January 3, 1944, to Dent and Marge Whitesides, while her father was serving in Europe, near the end of World War II. She always said her birthday meant, “The party was over!” as it was always the day everyone went back to work and school after the Christmas break. We always loved any opportunity to celebrate her.
She married Ted L. Cottle on November 19, 1964, as they were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. Ted passed away on February 27, 1998.
Our mother grew up in Layton, Utah where she also raised her family. She always had a soft spot in her heart for her hometown. She graduated from Davis High School and attended Utah State University; she frequently reminisced about all the wonderful friends and fun she had.
She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as both ward and stake auxiliary presidents, as well as many other callings. She fulfilled her obligations without hesitation and always found joy in the work and time she dedicated to others.
Mom was an amazing homemaker; her home was a gathering place filled with comfort and good food. As her kids were growing up, all friends were welcomed with love and laughter, and having parties in the basement often.
She was talented and she loved to sew, crochet, cross-stich, decorate, and cook. She loved trying new things and always made holiday and birthdays special. She spent hundreds of hours preparing meals for others and her family. We all especially cherish the many years we were able to spend together on Sundays at Grandma’s house.
Mom was quiet and happy to take a back seat, but she was fun loving and wanted to always go somewhere, whether it was to the grocery store, camping, traveling, or just for a ride.
She was a peacemaker, rarely raising her voice, or starting an argument. She would work things out and could always make things better. She would always smile and continue to be your biggest fan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ted; her daughter, Charlynn; her brothers, Val and Vaun Whitesides; brother-in-law, Bob Cottle, and sister-in-law, Diane Cottle.
Sharon is survived by her daughter, Carolee (Nate) Taggart; son, Ryan (Heidi) Cottle; grandkids, Spencer (Shaylee) Taggart, Tiffany Taggart, Brock (Holly) Taggart, Aubrey Taggart, Hannah Cottle, Sydney Cottle, Addison Cottle, and Chloe Cottle; and the great-grandkids, Everlee and Logan Taggart. She is also survived by her brother, Craig (Linda) Whitesides; and sister-in-laws, Teddy Whitesides, Bonnie (Clyde) Shaw, and Nancy (Ron) Shields.
We are so grateful for the wonderful care Mom received from both Home Health and Hospice Care, Rocky Mountain Rehab, and especially the loving care given to Mom at the Family Tree Assisted Living of West Point.
Thank you Mom; for your example of kindness, service, and love for others, and especially for your testimony. You always pressed forward with strength, love, dignity, trust, and faith in God. We love you!
