Sharon Sue Roehrkasse Kaschmitter

August 23, 1940 ~ April 9, 2014

Sharon Sue Roehrkasse Kaschmitter, 73, passed away surrounded by family on April 9, 2014.  Her death was due to a traumatic head injury caused by a fall.  She was born on August 23, 1940 to Laurence and Marjorie Roehrkasse in Williamsburg, Iowa.

Matthew and Sharon were married on November 30, 1963 and they shared 50 vibrant years together.

Born and raised in Williamsburg, Iowa, she earned her diploma from Williamsburg High School in 1958.  She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing where she received her RN Degree and then Coe College where she received her BSN Degree.  She also completed graduate work at the University of Iowa.

Sharon devoted her life to family, friends, and her nursing profession; hospitals, schools, and research.  She loved to tandem bike, play pickle ball, hike, garden, and cheer on the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Sharon loved Iowa and was a strong advocate for women’s health.

She leaves a legacy for her husband, Matthew; children, Lisa (Randy) Vogel and Mark (Bronda) Kaschmitter; grandchildren, Luke and Elizabeth Kaschmitter; brothers, Larry (Karol) Roehrkasse, John (Nancy) Roehrkasse, and Don (Ann) Roehrkasse.

She volunteered with many non-profit organizations and was an active member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Liberty, Iowa.

A Memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 880 28 th St., Ogden, with Reverend Dana Lee Simon officiating.  A Memorial will be held at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in North Liberty, Iowa at a later date.

The family would like to thank the staff of McKay-Dee Hospital and Gentiva Hospice for their service and gentle care.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be made to Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure, America Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Association East Central Iowa, or Gentiva Hospice.
