Shauna Lassig Brooks
EDEN - They say you can see a person''s soul through their eyes. Mother''s soul seemed to reach out and hold you. Shauna L. Brooks began a new journey on February 11, 2011.
She was born to Juliane and Golden Harris on February 4, 1946 in Tremonton, Utah. She grew up in Ogden with her sisters; LuWanna, Marlena, and Marcia in their beautiful home built by their father''s loving hands.
She started her own family with Richard Shurtleff. Together they had four beautiful children and enjoyed their time together. She later met and married her life companion, Gary Brooks on June 28, 1980. They had three more wonderful children.
Mom approached every day like it was an adventure! She loved sharing amazing experiences with her family and friends. You could catch her somersaulting down sand dune arch, driving switchbacks in Moab (even though she was terrified of heights), and diving into frigid water while river rafting or boating at the Tetons. One of her passions was rock hunting, a fun and unique skill she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Whether it was camping, hiking, or leading the conga line at family parties, she was happiest when her family was together.
She had the biggest heart! Whether it was her pets at home, stray animals of any kind, an injured squirrel on the side of the road, a friend in need or any member of her family, she took care of them and loved them fully!
Shauna was beautiful, strong, amazing, caring, compassionate, nurturing, bright, funny, thoughtful, and kind. She was loved by everyone who knew her and her laugh made everyone smile!
She is survived by her husband Gary; six children, Nichole (Greg) Kroening, Oriana (Jack) Carter-Long, Phaedra (Carlos) Tripp, Ryan (Cassie) Shurtleff, Kellie (Steve) Call, Elizabeth (Bryan) Browning; two step-children, Becky Brooks and David Brooks; two sisters, LuWanna Broadbent and Marcia (Greg) Gleason. She is leaving behind 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild, whom she had very special relationships with, and was looking forward to the two that were on their way.
She is also leaving behind Black Jack (cat-28 y/o), Willow (dog-15 y/o) and Jackson (dog-7 y/o).
She is preceded in death by her son Shane Gary Brooks, mother, father, sister, and grandson.
Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Ogden City Cemetery. A celebration of her life will be held following the service at the Kroening residence, 5481 E. Buckhorn Drive in Eden, Utah.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you please make a donation to the Humane Society.
