Sherman Lyle Jones
OGDEN a" Sherman Lyle Jones, 98, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010.
He was born September 26, 1912 in Huntington, Utah to Elam and Ada Sherman Jones. He was born into a family of 11 children, five sons and six daughters.
He worked on the family farm growing up. He met a young school teacher, Edith Christina Christensen, when she was teaching school in Orangeville, Utah. They were married in Castledale in 1937 and later that year their marriage was solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.
They moved to Ogden in 1940 and bought a fruit orchard. He worked the orchard for over 60 years. Edith died in 1964. He married Faye Carter of Morgan. She died in 2000.
Sherman loved Belgian draft horses and raised them and worked them in the orchard. He had a Grand Champion mare one year. He was a harness maker and spent many years collecting repairing and creating harnesses.
Sherman is survived by a son, DeRell L. "Nick" (Carolyn) Jones, West Weber; a daughter-in-law, Jackie Jones, Baton Rouge, LA; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Blake Jones, Huntington, UT; and B Jones, Price, UT.
He was preceded in death by two sons, LaDean and Kent, a grandson, Lyle, four sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 6th at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s North Ogden Mortuary, 2140 North Washington Blvd.
The family will meet with friends on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m., at the mortuary.
Interment, Ben Lomond Cemetery.
