1920 ~ 2017

Sherman Sewell, 97, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2017.  He was born on March 19, 1920 in Ogden, Utah to Henry W. and Elece Moyes Sewell.  He was raised in Ogden, working in his father’s grocery store.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving four years in the 186 Infantry Regiment 41st Division; most of that time was spent in the South Pacific.  It was in the South Pacific that he was able to return a salute with General Douglas MacArthur.

Prior to entering the military service, he was employed at Hill Air Force Base.  From military service he then returned to Hill Air Force Base where he managed various accounting systems including the Civilian Payroll System.

On November 29, 1946 he married his sweetheart, Beverly Parkinson in Wellsville, Utah.  A short time later it was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.  He was a High Priest in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Ward and Stake Financial Clerk for many years.  He also had been a volunteer for the Family History Center.

He served forty-one years on the Loan Review Committee of America First Credit Union.

After retirement form the Government, he served as an Income Tax Consultant.

He enjoyed time with his family and grandchildren.  He also enjoyed traveling and camping with many of his friends in a chapter of Good Sam’s Club known as “Over the Hill Sam’s.”

Surviving are his wife and his children, Ronald (Diana) Sewell, Scott (Cindy) Sewell, Karl (Jan) Sewell, Shelley (David) Barlow, and Jacqueline (Mark) Dotson.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Virginia Sewell Bowman; and two half-brothers, LeRoy Hadley and William H. Hadley.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Taylor Canyon Ward, 1643 26th St .,  Ogden.  Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.  Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
