Sherri Scovill Crowley

May 18, 1959 — February 8, 2025

Clinton

Sherri Scovill Crowley—beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend—passed away on February 8, 2025, at the age of 65 after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. She passed peacefully at her home in Clinton, Utah.

Sherri was born on May 18, 1959, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to LaDue and Roanna Scovill. She spent her early childhood in Bountiful, before moving to Santaquin at age twelve. She graduated from Payson High School in 1977.

Sherri’s favorite story was the Little Red Hen, and she lived her life by that philosophy—always inviting people to help, but unafraid to stubbornly dig in by herself to get things done. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Sherri served in numerous callings, including Sunday School Teacher, Primary Chorister, Young Women’s President, and Organist. She embarked on a mission to Sapporo, Japan, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1981. She later graduated from Brigham Young University in 1983 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a minor in English.

In 1983, Sherri married the love of her life and soulmate, Kirby Don Crowley, in the Provo Utah Temple. They shared 41 years of marriage and raised seven children together. They were—and are—eternal partners, and they held on tight to each other through the storms of life. When Kirby was stationed in Korea, Sherri—along with their first child, Michael—came along, teaching English and math on base. Back in the States, through dozens of moves, as Kirby worked to provide a house, Sherri turned each one into a home. Later, when Kirby worked in Iraq for 15 years, Sherri held down the fort at home, and they talked and prayed together every day through the miracle of online video calls.

Sherri cultivated beauty wherever she went. An avid gardener, she found peace in tending to her flowers. Music, needlepoint, and teaching children in all capacities added to the richness of her life. She wants everyone, especially her children, to know that she has a strong and firm testimony of her Savior, Jesus Christ, and His Gospel. She often spent her leisure hours studying the Gospel, watching videos and reading books that inspired deep thought, and writing in her blog “Daughters of Helaman.” She was known for making insightful comments in church, giving wise advice, and not being bothered by others’ expectations. Every once in a while, she would surprise us with a display of spunky sass, like doing a skit at Girls’ Camp, or writing snarky letters letting the city know they had no business telling her how to xeriscape her yard or park her cars.

She taught third grade for 13 years, at Kirk L. Adams Elementary in Las Vegas and Syracuse Elementary in Utah. She also regularly sought volunteer opportunities that suited her passions and talents. All the while she kept tabs on her beloved children, reached out when one was in need, and made her home a landing place for her children and their friends. She created a warm, welcoming home where the guest rooms were never empty for long.

When she was diagnosed with cancer and started chemo treatments, and didn’t have as much energy to spend time in the garden or in service, she found another way to spread her joy. She spiced up her wardrobe with vibrant colors and became the “funky shoes lady.” She said she wanted people who looked at her to feel happy, not sad. She loved sunflowers, and her favorite quote is one by Helen Keller: “Keep your face toward the sunshine, and you cannot see the shadows. It’s what the sunflowers do.”

She spent family time out in nature as often as possible: road-tripping to campgrounds all over this part of the world; riding 4-wheelers up the slopes of sand dunes and down rocky forest trails; or sitting in lawn chairs in the backyard, under her willow tree or around the outdoor stove, talking about everything and nothing with the people who love her.

In her last few years, as Sherri found that she could no longer be the Little Red Hen and “do it all,” she discovered just how many lives she had impacted. Friends, family, and ward members past and present rallied around her to keep up the garden, maintain the house, embrace and support her children, keep her updated on neighborhood news, and more. The love she poured out into her communities all her life was returned a thousandfold.

Sherri is survived by her husband, Kirby; her parents, LaDue and Roanna Scovill; and her treasured children: Michael (Shantel) Crowley, Michelle (Emmett) Raymond, Caryn Crowley, Kyle (Amber) Crowley, Bethany Crowley, Meagan Crowley, and Rebecca Crowley. She is also survived by her siblings: Terry (Lori) Scovill, Gary (Terri Lynn) Scovill, Brett (Natalie) Scovill, and Lori (George) Silva.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to all, with a special thank you to her friends, ward family, caring medical professionals, and her wonderful “chemo buddies.”

Sherri will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her. Quoting Isaiah: “But they who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.” We know that Sherri is engaged in service again, reaching out to those she loves, and supporting us from the other side.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at the Clinton 18th Ward, 2206 West 2300 North, Clinton UT. The family will meet with friends on Friday, February 14, 2025 from 6 to 8 pm at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary 3333 West 5600 South and Saturday from 12:30 1:30 p.m. at the church.

Sherri will be laid to rest at the Clinton City Cemetery, 813 North 750 West, Clinton UT.
