Sherryl Jones Bixler
Our mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Sherryl Jones Bixler, age 77, died peacefully on December 22, 2013 in Layton, Utah after a brief struggle with cancer. Sherryl was born on September 18, 1936 in Kaysville, Utah the daughter of Lowell Hansen and Ruth Bloxham.
Mom had a passion for reading and was always in the middle of a good book. She also enjoyed spending time doing needlepoint, crossword puzzles and crocheting. Many of her projects were given as gifts to family and friends, or displayed in her home for others to enjoy. Mom was a former member of the Syracuse Lady Lions Club, and enjoyed her association with those ladies. Mom also was able to use her love of crafts and games as a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts.
On December 12, 1958 she married the love of her life Gayland Jones, and they enjoyed life to its fullest for 12 years prior to his death. The pride of their lives together was raising their three sons. They spent many weekends together camping, hunting, fishing and being involved in numerous sports. Mom supported each of our ball teams, cheering from her parked car on the sidelines and honking the horn when we would score. She also made numerous weekly trips to various ski resorts, knitting or reading by the lodge fireplace, while the boys spent hours on the ski slopes.
After Dad''s death, Mom later married Dale Bixler, and they continued the camping and other activities together.
Mom enjoyed her family and time during the warm weather months of Northern Utah, and then spent the remainder of the colder months with good friends in Yuma, Arizona. She enjoyed outings and activities as a "snowbird", not having to shovel snow or scrape windshields.
Sherryl is survived by her husband Dale; three sons, Dirk (wife, Jamie), Todd (wife, Dana), and Chad (wife, Teresa); eleven grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren; sisters Linda and Judy (brother-in-law David); eleven brothers and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gayland; her parents; her father and mother in-law; four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law.
