Shirl B. Hess
1935 ~ 2011
WASHINGTON TERRACE – Shirl B. Hess, 75, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Thursday, January 27, 2011.
Shirl was born at the family home on Wall Avenue on February 21, 1935, to Tracy R. and Henrietta Hyde Hess.
Shirl married his sweetheart, Beverly Jean Fredrickson, on February 25, 1955. They were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in July of 1964.
He retired from Hill Air Force Base following 30 years of service. He and Bev also ran a successful business, Hess & Sons Garbage Service, for 25 years.
Shirl loved raising and running his horses. His horses broke track records at Wyoming Downs, Rupert, and Pocatello, Idaho, on the flat track. He also enjoyed cutter racing and his horses won the World Championship 5th Division in 2000 and 2001. Shirl loved his family and enjoyed having them around him. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and the out of doors.
Shirl is survived by his wife Beverly, mother Henrietta, his children, Michael S. (Diane) Hess, Debra J. (Randy) Stone, Donald F. (Irene) Hess, David L. (Kathy) Hess, sister Linda (Keith) Beus, sister-in-law Pat Patterson, former daughters-in-law Sabina Hess and Peggy Cope, 14 grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 24 step-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Shirl in death were his father Tracy, brother Scott, two great-grandchildren and two special nephews.
Graveside services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd.
Family will meet with friends on Monday at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd., from 9 to 10 a.m.
