Shirlene Kelly Ripplinger

November 5, 1931 — November 9, 2023

Shirlene Kelly Ripplinger, 92, passed away on November 9, 2023, surrounded by her devoted children. She was born on November 5, 1931 to Estella Coffin and Raymond Elmo Kelly in Pocatello, Idaho.

Shirlene grew up in a happy home in Vallejo, California. She loved being called a California girl. She was big sister to Lois Stolzenberg and Barbara Grover and little sister to Robert Kelly. She met Paul while he served in the Navy there.

She married Paul Grant Ripplinger in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on September 7, 1949. They were married for 62 years and blessed with five children, Randy, Jana, Kelly, Kent, and Mike. Shirlene and Paul lived in Logan, Salt Lake City, Ogden, Pleasant View, and Syracuse, Utah.

Shirlene had many talents. She was an accomplished artist, home decorator, gardener, and seamstress and was always free with her hospitality to others. She loved walking, biking and skiing with friends and family. She had a great love of traveling the world with her husband and children. Shirlene spent many hours helping to care for her daughter, Kelly, who had many health challenges. Shirlene would help her fix her hair and make-up and gave hours of attention to Kelly’s needs. Shirlene always reached out to bless her family member’s lives.

Shirlene is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Her life was a testament to love, compassion, and resilience. Her nurturing spirit and unwavering love profoundly impacted those fortunate enough to have known her. Shirlene and Paul served together in the California Sacramento Mission, and they worked as humanitarian aid missionaries in Hong Kong and the Philippines. She has had many Church callings among which are Relief Society President, Young Women president and counselor, Stake and Ward Young Women advisor, Primary President’s counselor and Relief Society teacher. Her testimony was always apparent as she interacted with family and others.

She is survived by her sisters, Lois Stolzenberg and Barbara Grover, her children, Randall Ray and Linda Ripplinger of Fruit Heights, Jana Lynn Lloyd and Rob of Fruit Heights, Kent Paul Ripplinger and Shelly of Ogden, and Michael Scott Ripplinger and Desirae of Tooele. Shirlene and Paul have 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

She will be joyfully reunited with her husband, Paul, daughter, Kelly Ripplinger-Hale, grandson, Jonathan Ripplinger, and her parents, Raymond and Estella Kelly and brother, Robert Kelly, in the afterlife.
