SHIRLEY MAE FERLAND
September 4, 1935 ~ October 28, 2017
Shirley Mae Ferland, 82, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 28, 2017.
She was born September 4, 1935 in Albany, New York, the daughter of Archie Harold Stevens and Elizabeth Mary Bassler. She was raised in the Albany, New York area and attended public schools, later receiving her BSBA. Having attended college in Plattsburgh, New York in 1955 and later finishing in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1989.
Shirley worked for many years as a controller, retiring from Fabriweld Bending and Fabrication.
She enjoyed being civically active. She was an active member of Mtn. Road Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Fruit Heights where she was a founding member and served as both an Elder and a Deacon at various times, as well as active involvement in Women’s Ministry. She also enjoyed activities with the “Newcomers Club” and was a breast cancer survivor and a member of the “Bosom Buddies”. She was elegant and full of grace and was a positive role model to everyone. She always had a kind word and smile on her face. Her faith was vibrant and she put others before herself. She impacted everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
“Granny” found immense joy in each of her 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. She was full of smiles and laughter at family events, listening intently to all their little voices. Her world revolved around family and church but we’d be selling her short if we left out food. She was the best Thanksgiving Day dinner maker ever! “Thank you Mom, we will miss you and we love you. God will keep you well now”.
