Shirley Mae Warner Gailey

March 8, 1933 — July 4, 2024

Shirley Mae Warner Gailey, the fifth of nine children, was born to Clyde Oborn Warner and Margaret Amelia Nash Warner on March 8, 1933, in Ogden, Weber, Utah.

Her passing on July 4, 2024 in Kaysville, Davis, Utah brought closure to a life filled with hard work, service to others, and devotion to family.

She was educated in the Ogden School District, graduating from Ogden High School, where she was scholastically successful and participated as a member of the women’s basketball team.

Shirley was introduced to Ferrel Gailey on a blind date in 1948 which culminated in a 5-year courtship and subsequent marriage in the Salt Lake Temple on May 29, 1953. She often remarked that she had a “really good marriage.”

Together, they joined with Wayne and Holly Hall to form Hall & Gailey Construction, Inc, specializing in heavy equipment operation. Shirley spent countless hours in the office handling billing, payroll, and other office duties. No job was too big or too small for Shirley. She was often found driving the fuel truck to a job site in the early years of the business.

She gave devoted service to her church through ward and stake callings, served as a hostess for the Relief Society General Board, and fulfilled a mission with her husband to the Chicago, Illinois Temple. She typed patriarchal blessings for her husband and served as president for the Syracuse Elementary School P.T.A.

Her children were blessed with constant care. They never lacked for the physical necessities of life and were taught the gospel in word and deed. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren. The annual Christmas party always included a game of Bingo with random “practical” gifts for the winners.

Shirley is survived by her three children: Randy Gailey (Terri); Laurie Barker (Jerry); Bret Gailey (Stephanie); along with 11 grandchildren and 29 Great Grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by two sisters and sister-in law: Janice Lerohl (Jerry) Connie Horspool (Gary), and Karleen Warner (Larry).

The family expresses gratitude for the care and kindness provided by the staff of Whisper Cove Assisted Living over the past few years.
