Shirley was born on in 1930 in Ogden, Utah, the daughter of Harry Joseph and Gladys Critchlow Eldredge. She went to Polk Elementary School, Central Junior High School and Ogden High School graduating in 1948.

She married Richard Byrd Glasmann on April 18, 1948 in Elko, Nevada; while they were still in their Senior Class at Ogden High School. They were the first couple at Ogden High School, who was ever permitted to be married and let stay in school to graduate.

She studied piano under the direction of Frederick Dixon, and after graduation, she taught piano lessons to students, until she had her first child, Linda Kay. Richard Paul was born two years later. They all moved to Beatty, Nevada in 1952, for Dick to run his father-in-law’s gambling casino, The Exchange Bar and Hotel. They resided there for two years, returning to Ogden in 1954. In 1954, after her husband re-opened the Paramount Theatre, she went to work there in the concessions counter. She also worked for him in the North Star Twin Drive-In Theatres, The Orpheum Theatre, and the Valley View Drive-in

Theatre in Salt Lake City. Her husband resigned from the theatre business and they went to Sacramento California and opened the McFarland Candy Store in 1967. She worked there until they sold it in 1969, and returned again to Ogden, where they resumed working in the theatres until they retired in 1979. She was a member of the Eccles Community Art Center, The Ogden Symphony Association and many organizations involved in animal welfare. Shirley was born a Republican and died a diehard Democrat.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Linda K Newton (John); five grandchildren, Andrea Fletcher-Gill, Hollie (Nicolas) Pina, Aric Fletcher, Angela Fleming (Tymothy), and Marc Fletcher (Tessa). She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Natasha, Ariana, Cristopher, Gessa, Jaydan, Aizik, Marli, Jimmy, Marcus, and Josie; and two great-great-grandsons, Kristian and Xavier; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Eldredge, Evelyn Ladd, and Janet Thompson. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harry and Kenneth Eldredge; husband, Richard; son, Richard Paul Glasmann; and son-in-law, William B Fletcher.

Much thanks for the loving care she received from all her special caregivers at Our House of Ogden, Hidden Valley Assisted Living, Dr. Holland and Comfort Worx Hospice. You were all the best!

Donations can be made in her honor to Weber County Animal Services and Adoptions or South Ogden Animal Shelter.

Private services were held. Services entrusted to Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary.
