February 15, 1930 ~ April 14, 2016
Shirley Corkey Johnson, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at Fairfield Village Assisted Living in Layton, Utah on Thursday, April 14, 2016. She was born on February 15, 1930 to Herbert John Corkey and Melba Leona Ogden in Ogden, Utah. Shirley graduated from Ogden High School and loved her role as editor of the school yearbook. She was very involved with organizing reunions and keeping track of classmates. She also attended Weber College and was President of Lambda Delta Sigma.
She married LeRoy Dale Johnson in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 27, 1954. She loved being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with all her heart. Shirley served in many positions in the Church including Primary and Relief Society President. She worked at Beehive Clothing and was an Ogden LDS Temple worker with Dale for many years. Shirley loved being a homemaker and had many talents including sewing, crocheting, genealogy, playing the piano, and rarely losing a board game. Some of her fondest memories were of camping.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Dale and children, Debbie (Mark) White, Layton; Curtis (Kathy) Johnson, Ogden; and Tami Hull, South Ogden. She has seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Herbert John Corkey, Jr.
Our family would like to express sincere gratitude to those who have compassionately cared for our parents, Encompass Hospice - Danny, Pam, Karen, Mike, and Ashley; Debra Cole, Dr. Vincent Hansen and his Oncology staff, and the caregivers at The Gardens and Fairfield Village Assisted Living facilities.
Mom was our hero! She fought a long valiant battle with cancer, making it into remission. Throughout her struggles, she continued to keep a smile on her face.
