Our Shirley Girl returned to her Heavenly home on September 7, 2022.
Shirley was born in Salt Lake City, Utah August 21, 1930. She grew up in Salt Lake City. She attended West High School where she loved to learn and loved to dance. She attended Stevens-Henagar College obtaining an Associate Degree in business. She worked as a secretary and office assistant for several companies through the years. She worked for Wycoff Co. and ZCMI. After retiring, she and her husband, John, moved to Sun City, Arizona where they enjoyed almost 20 years with friends and travel.
Shirley loved to garden and spent much time planting and cultivating a beautiful garden paradise. She loved to work her magic in the garden and compared much of life to the beauty in nature, growing things and love of God. She loved to write poems and would often write about her garden, nature, and life. She would send poems to family and friends on their special days, and often just because she was thinking about them. Shirley loved collecting beautiful things - especially if they were sparkly. She loved collecting friends most of all.
She had a sincere love of people! She loved her family and her friends. She had a contagious smile and a gift of connecting with others. Shirley loved to dance. Many called her "Dancing Shirley". We hope she is dancing now in heaven!
A highlight in her life came when, at the age of 91, she decided to be baptized and become a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. This brought great joy to her life. She appreciated those who taught her and loved her into the fold.
Shirley is survived by daughter, Lara Freeman Babcock (Mike); son, Kendell Freeman (Sandra); and daughter, Wendy Zabriskie (Paul). She was preceded in death by her parents, John Kenneth, and Ardella Jane Doolin; brother, Thomas Doolin; husband, John Katter; son, Corey D. Freeman; granddaughters, Kinsey Lennon Parker and Kamie Micail Babcock. Our family would like to thank all of the care givers and staff at Hidden Valley Assisted Living, along with Rocky Mountain Hospice. We are grateful for the loving patience and care given to Shirley from these angel helpers!
