Shirley Maurine Foss Lane
February 22, 1935 ~ April 21, 2016
Shirley Maurine Foss Lane, 81, passed away peacefully in her sleep with family present on Thursday, April 21, 2016. She was born on February 22, 1935 to Cecil and Geneva (Vest) Foss at the family homestead on the Tongue River near Sheridan, WY. She grew up in several of Wyoming’s most scenic areas, her family then settling in Evanston. Maurine graduated from Evanston High School in 1953.
Maurine was crowned Cowboy Days Rodeo Queen in 1953. She rode a horse in the Evanston Cowboy Days parade in 2003, in the same fringed buckskin jacket, hat, sash and boots worn as rodeo royalty 50 years before.
Maurine made many lifelong friends in Evanston, the luckiest of them being Michael Jennings Lane, whom she married on June 17, 1954. Last June they celebrated 61 years of marriage.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Mike; three children, Michael B. (Lisa) Lane, Susan (Gregg) Nelson, and Linda Crotwell; eight grandchildren, Lacie (Gilbert), Bob (Alyssa), Michael M., Jake, Kevin, Andy, Bryan, and Sebrina; and three great-grandchildren, Joey, Nati, and Ana.
Never hesitating to show up for a friend in need, where most would offer assurance, Maurine brought tools.
She was a wife, mother, grandmother, and matriarch. For 81 years she did her very best; At all things. Every time.
A Memorial service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016 at 2 p.m. at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd. Friends may visit with family on Friday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the mortuary.
The family wishes to thank everyone for their support during her illness.
