SHIRLEY BALLS HASLAM OMAN

1924-2015

The postal service has a lighter load, a tee time has been reserved on Heaven’s course, and six girls will miss their favorite shopping partner.  Shirley Ethel Woolf Balls, daughter of John Alma and Ethel Woolf Balls, passed away February 20, 2015 in Chandler, Arizona.  She was born November 17, 1924 in Logan, Utah.  She was raised in Cache Valley.  She married Ivan Smith Haslam in the Logan LDS Temple in 1943.  Together they raised six daughters; Vicky (Robert) West, Ann (Blaine) Flinders, Cynthia (Steven) Johnson, Robyn, (Gery) Nielsen, Jill (Mark) Ballif, Tracy (Kevin) Hess.  Ivan passed away July 16, 1978.  Shirley has 31 grandchildren and 70 great-grandchildren who remember her for weekends at the cabin, winters in the Arizona sun, wit, jokes, colorful stories and endless candy supply.

She married Kendall R. Oman, May 24, 1986.  Ken had three children, Jory (Nancy) Oman, Eldon (Cindy) Oman, Ellee Rands.

Shirley was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served in many callings.  She and Ken served missions in the Atlanta Georgia and Washington D.C. Temples.  Ken passed away October 19, 2005.

Shirley kept the mailman busy, never missing a chance to send birthday cards to her family and friends.  She played pro softball for Salt Lake Shamrocks; she was a golfer, tennis player and quite the shopper.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2015 at the Bountiful 43 rd Ward Chapel, 1000 N. 100 W.  Family and friends may visit Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E. and at the ward one hour prior to the service on Saturday.

While we will try and heed her advice to “never get old”, we can’t wait to see her again with a body that will keep up with her ever keen mind.
