Shirley Ann Pagano Pierce

LAYTON – Shirley Ann Pagano Pierce passed away September 24, 2014 at the age of 79.  She was born May 28, 1935 in Price, Utah to Antonio Pagano and Evella (Billie) Mills.  She grew up in Price with her younger brother Richard.  Shirley graduated from Carbon High School in 1953.  She married Perry M. Pierce in Elko, Nevada on August 28, 1963.  Perry and Shirley lived in Price, Sunset, and Sacramento before settling in Layton where they raised their two children Kelly and Doug.

Shirley was a member of the LDS Church and served in the Layton Vae View Ward as Primary Secretary and Librarian.  Shirley began a career with “Merrill Bean Chevrolet” in 1969 and continued as Office Manager as the dealership changed to “John Watson Chevrolet”.  She worked until her death, becoming the most senior employee at the dealership having been hired even before John Watson himself.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, brother, and husband and is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Scott) Smith and her son, Douglas (Colleen) Pierce, as well as her four granddaughters, Alexa Pierce, Victoria Pierce, Mary Ann Pierce, and Bailey Smith.

Because of a lingering illness, she became part of the family at Davis North Medical Center’s Outpatient Ward along with Utah Cancer Specialists.  He weekly visits became her social life, and the family would like to thank Drs. Jason Stinett and James Rees and their staff for years of caring concern.

Shirley’s main hobby an interest was people and their happiness, especially her family and granddaughters.  She was always generous and giving to a fault.  Every birthday and holiday was an excuse to spoil someone, at Christmas we plunged into the “bacchanalia with unbridled avarice”.  By Christmas Day, gifts crowded the Living Room until there was barely room to stand…and each Christmas she promised, “Next year I’m going to cut back,” which was always a lie.

Funeral services will be held Monday, September 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.  Friends may visit family Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment, Lindquist’s Memorial Park at Layton, 1867 No. Fairfield Road.
