SHIRLEY ARLENE REID WALTON
1929-2016
Shirley Arlene Reid Walton, age 87 years old, passed away peacefully August 23, 2016 in Bountiful, Utah surrounded by her family. Born April 9, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Samuel Roscoe and Vera Vivian Reid, she was the sixth of eight children.
She was raised and educated in Salt Lake City, graduated from West High which she cheered for up to the end. She met a handsome young man William O. Walton after an encounter from a snowball thrown her way by him. They fell in love and married June 25, 1949 in Elko, Nev. Together they made a home in Salt Lake City, Utah, Pueblo, Colorado and Santa Fe, NM before finally settling down in Bountiful, Utah. They raised 5 children, Russell (Kathleen) Walton, Michael (Renee) Walton, Kathleen (Steven) Joy, Steven (Lisa) Walton and Lori (Phil) Anderton.
Shirley devoted her life to her family, provided service to many in need, and was a member of the First Baptist Church which she enjoyed singing in the choir. She found joy dressing up for Halloween, volunteered as a Pink Lady at Lakeview Hospital and gardening. Her beloved husband William passed away suddenly on Nov. 12, 1982, and though they have been separated for 34 years what a joyous reunion they will have.
She is survived by her children; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers Gregory Reid and Earl (Arlene) Reid; many nieces and nephews.
A special thank you to the staff at Welcome Home Assisted Living for the wonderful care they gave mom for the last 9 years and a thank you to Susan at Tender Care Hospice that provided her final days with comfort.
There will be a Graveside Service on September 3, 2016 at 10 a.m. at Bountiful City Cemetery. At Shirley’s request she wished to be cremated and buried next to her husband.
Mom, you will be missed but never forgotten.
