Shirley Ann Frazier Watts
Shirley Ann Frazier Watts went home to her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, September 16, 2014. She left this life surrounded by family and friends after a long battle with cancer.
Shirley Ann Hutchinson was born to loving parents Ernest and Mable Hutchinson on March 29, 1938.
Her beauty, intelligence, and grace were evident in all of her accomplishments. She served as Press Secretary for Arizona Governor Jack Williams early in her career. Her life was dedicated to assisting the less fortunate and education in her careers working as a social worker and educator. Shirley touched the lives of students from elementary school to the university level. She was an avid crusader for assisting those in need through her work as a job counselor. She received many accolades and awards from the states of Utah, Arizona, and Oklahoma for her support of educational, political and social changes. Anyone who knew her was aware of her amazing talent on the piano. She played the piano from the young age of four, and was teaching piano lessons by the age of seven. She was the pianist for Mount Cavalry Baptist Church in Phoenix, AZ throughout her teenage years. Later in life, Shirley played the organ for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the St. George and Bountiful Temples. She blessed many congregations with her talent.
Shirley Ann is survived by her six children: Charles Edward Frazier, Jr. “Danny” (Joy), Mark Ernest Frazier (Debi), Karilyn Elizabeth Frazier, Michael Hutchinson Frazier, Rodney Miller Frazier (Kris), and Sherry Doreen Belyeu (Greg); her two sisters: Ernestine Heard and Ruby Mayfield; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; best friends: Gail Collins and Diane Morrill. She had many nieces, nephews and friends around the country that she loved and spoke of often and fondly.
Shirley’s love of life, her quick wit, laughter, ability to never meet a stranger, “adoption” of all people, love of delicious ethnic foods, and knowledge of the arts and cultures will live on through her children and anyone who was blessed to have known her.
Memorial services will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 3 p.m. at the Layton Oakhills Ward, 1410
E. Gentile, Layton.
