Shizuko Kaneishi Vanhorn

Shizuko Kaneishi Maurakami Vanhorn, age 93, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. She was born on February 8, 1919 in Oita-ken Japan, the daughter of LTC Kumataro and Yasuko Kawasumi Kaneishi. At three years old her mother died and she was raised by her paternal grandmother in Yamaguchi-ken Japan.

She married Sueo Murakami in Oct. 1939 and lived in Jigozen Hiroshima. Sueo died on December 20, 1943. On April 15, 1958 she married Raymond Roy Vanhorn in Tokyo Japan. While married to Ray she lived in: Plattesburg, NY; Neah Bay, Washington; Hill AFB and Tokyo, Japan. Following Ray''s retirement from the Air Force in 1975 they resided in Kaysville. Ray died on April 7, 1997.

She worked for many years as a volunteer at the Autumn Glow Seniors Center. She loved gardening, raising a variety of flowers and vegetables. She was well known for the beautiful roses in her yard. She had an endearing personality and was loved by everyone who knew her; she was a very sweet and gentle person. Even until the very end she had a greater concern for others and was never one to complain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands and an infant daughter, Suzanne. She is survived by her two sisters, Sayoko Endo, Chiba Japan; Hisako Sato, Tokyo Japan; brother and sisters-in-law: William and Esther Vanhorne, North Robinson, Ohio; Leona Vanhorne, Mansfield, Ohio; Carol Esterline, Mansfield, Ohio; and Pauline Smith, National City, Michigan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and her "adopted" son Paul Miya.

A private graveside service will be held following cremation. On Monday, June 4, 2012 there will be a viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist''s Layton Mortuary, 1867 North Fairfield Rd. Interment will be at the Utah Veteran''s Cemetery, Camp Williams.

She was very grateful for the loving care she received from Mindy from Essential Care Services as well as Brenda and Kenzlee from Summit Hospice.
