Sidney LaMarr Jenson, 77, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, February 16, 2016, in Farmington, UT, due to Alzheimer’s Disease.
Sid was born on November 25, 1938, in Logan, UT, to Emuel Moroni Jenson and Vera Perkes Jenson. The family later moved to Brigham City, UT, where Sid graduated from Box Elder High School where he was active in student government and sports.
Sid pursued his education at Utah State University in Logan, UT. He graduated with Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees. Sid continued his education at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, UT, and graduated with a degree of Doctor of Philosophy in English. He also served in the Utah Army National Guard.
He married Karen Sawyer in 1963, and they are the parents of six children—Lori Jenson (Kurt), Konnor Jenson (Jeff), Jennifer Clark (Spencer), Shelly Jenson, Rebecca Petersen (Arthur), and Emily Jenson (Sam). They later divorced.
Sid’s teaching career included Southern Utah University, the University of Utah, and BYU-Hawaii. He continued his career as an international consultant with Shipley Associates and Shipley Group for many years.
Sid was a part-time and full-time ski instructor at the Alf Engen Ski School at Alta, UT, for 52 years. Alf Engen was his mentor and friend. Sid was selected as one of the top 100 ski instructors in the United States. Snow skiing became a life-long sport and passion for him and he taught his children, grandchildren, and hundreds of people from all over the world the fine art of skiing. In the summer months Sid could be found on the golf course or a fishing stream, after arising before dawn to complete his other responsibilities.
Sid married Velma Mathie in 1988 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Step-children, whom he loved like his own, include Lori Walker (Ryan), Linda Morgan (Bryant), Brad Goldsberry (Carol), Greg Goldsberry (Masami), and Cameron Goldsberry (Lindy).
Sid was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and served in many capacities throughout his life. He was an avid student of the scriptures and the gospel. Sid and Velma served a mission together in Siberia, Russia, from 2004-2006, and he worked as an ordinance worker in the Bountiful, Utah, LDS Temple for several years upon their return.
Sid is survived by his wife, Velma, all of his children and step-children, 33 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. His siblings: sister Susan Blake (Robert), brothers Gerald (Carol), Merlin (Carol), Ralph (Karen), Ray (Clara) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016, at 11 a.m. at the Somerset Ward LDS Chapel, 1885 N. Summerwood Drive, Farmington, UT. A viewing will be held Sunday at the church from 7 to 9 p.m. and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday prior to the service.
Interment, Farmington City Cemetery.
