Sidney Ray Moss

September 24, 1951 — November 27, 2024

“Slim Pickins”

After a long battle with various health issues Sid returned to his loving Heavenly Father on November 27, 2024.

Sid was born September 24, 1951, in Salt Lake City Utah to Eldon Calvin & LaRue Webb Moss. Sid had a rambunctious childhood spending time camping and whatever adventures he could find. He enjoyed many of those adventures with his Webb grandparents, sister, and cousins.

Sid married his eternal love, Gayle Greenwood in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 6, 1974. They were blessed with three beautiful children: Sara, Jason and Nick. Sid had a great love for Gayle’s father, Charlie. Charlie spent many hours with Sid working and teaching. Whether it was a project or in the outdoors it was a time filled with love and laughter.

He loved to prank and laugh with his two brother-in-law’s that were more like kindred spirits. Lee, Charlie and Sid were always trying to play a prank on each other when they were together.

Sid loved life, his family, and creating the stories he would retell to all. He was a cowboy at heart. He greatly enjoyed the time that he spent up at Avon on his friend’s ranch and in the Uintah Mountains. He often told of the many hours he spent on back of his old friend “Jewelenski” – his trusted horse and how his friends referred to him as “Slim Pickins.” He loved all the time he spent with his family fishing, hunting, and camping. He was in his element in the mountains.

Sid worked for Smith’s Groceries for 25 years. Upon leaving Smith’s he went to work as a sales representative for Arnold Machinery. Sid was known for his honesty and reliability. Sid also enjoyed the time he spent helping his boys work for Parker Dairy Farm. While working there he met many friends and created more adventures.

Sid was an active member in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Sid was a boy scout at heart. He received his Eagle Scout award as a young man. Sid then served as a young men’s leader and enjoyed his time teaching the youth how to camp and fish. Sid knew how to magnify the calling as a home teacher. The people he was assigned to were not just an assignment but a friend to him. Sid was a friend to everyone and had a way of making them laugh.

His family will treasure in their hearts his many stories and laughs they shared with him.

Sid is survived by his wife of 50 years, Gayle Greenwood Moss; Children, Sara (Dan) Burdick of Argonne, WI, Jason Moss of Missoula, MT, Nick (Cami) Moss of Hooper, UT; Six Grandkids and many cousins, niece and nephew.

He is preceded in death by his Father, Eldon Moss; Mother, LaRue Webb Moss; Sister, Shaunda (Bob) Overby; Father-in-law, Charlie Greenwood; Mother-in-law, Jean Greenwood.
