OGDEN a€" Simmie Esquibel Martinez, 79, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at her home following an extended illness.

She was born April 17, 1931 in Velarde, New Mexico, a daughter of Ben and Dora Romero Esquibel.

On January 30, 1950, Simmie married Victor Martinez in Velarde, New Mexico.

She was raised and educated in New Mexico and moved to Ogden at the age of 21.

She was a member of the Catholic Church.

Simmie enjoyed sewing and crocheting, but friends and family were the most important things in her life.

Surviving are her husband, Victor, of Ogden; one son and one daughter, Jerry (Kelly) Martinez, Chey (Russ) Wilson, six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are one brother and four sisters, Don (Rosa) Esquibel, Fermie Munoz, Bernice Martinez, Marie Hawn, and Evelyn (Hugo) Lopez.

Preceding Simmie in death were her parents, three sisters and one brother.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Lindquist''s Ogden Mortuary, 3408 Washington Blvd.

Family will visit with friends at the mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday 9:45 to 10:45 a.m.
